    Why Attend?

    Full Overview

By 2050 our global food systems will need to feed 9.7 billion people and do so in the context of radically minimised environmental impact. What we eat, and how we produce, consume and dispose of it, is undergoing a dramatic transformation as a result. Alternative protein sources, vertical farming, and technology that extends the shelf life of food are just a few examples of eye-catching solutions attracting attention. But as the pressure of population growth and climate change on our food systems increases, more innovation, investment and collective action is needed to scale-up the climate-positive approaches capable of delivering affordable, healthy, and sustainable food for all.

Transforming how we produce and consume food hinges both on collaboration between many stakeholders and the understanding that nutrition, climate change, biodiversity, waste, and food security are intertwined features of a complex system. Transitioning to more sustainable ways of producing, manufacturing and consuming food therefore needs a holistic, systems-wide approach, one that rethinks farming practices and land use, improves soil health, incentivises and enables people to eat well, and dramatically reduces the amount of food that goes to waste.

With so many factors at play, this kind of complex change brings with it many challenges. But it brings new opportunities, too. In this 50-minute digital dialogue, in partnership with Tesco, this exclusive FT webinar will discuss the transformation we need to see across the food system, identify where the opportunities for change and innovation are, and focus on the kind of support and action required to unlock them.
